How do you grow a bonsai tree the right way?

I am trying to grow a bonsai tree but i don't know when to trim the roots and the branches and how much to trim if you can please give me some tips and advice i would really appreciate it.|||Make sure your bonsai tree gets at least 3 hours of sunlight every day.
